Brooks Brothers Facebook Comment Policy

I was returning from a weekend in Paris when I saw this post which regrettably does not exist anymore and whose I only a partial copy of it unfortunately. It  is thanks to Joey Duis and his good readings that I stumbled on it. You can follow him @joeyduis, I do not think that he will mind that I do some promotion.

This reading was about the conditions of use of the Brooks and Brothers Facebook wall.

I wish I made a copy. Instead I have that:

It was said there that the moderation team of the site could erase a comment whatever reason it is and that the users should not leave personal information about the same wall.

All in all, my first reaction was to not understand why they wanted to do claims. It is to wonder if the brand had problems of this kind in the past.

As if their customers and fans (because it is necessary to be “fan” to be able to post on the wall) would have intentions to them in priori. I do not find it very classy for a brand which says itself as such.

The good behaviour of the user like the good moderation on behalf of the brand should be implicit. Later naturally they need to spam there especially if the page has of the traffic. Unless it is a problem of complaints. If it is the case, they need to handle them in the best manner, at least to send the dissatisfied customers to the customer service.

But for me it represents a lack of judgment on behalf of the brand. They are not Coke, their capacity of moderation should be sufficient to manage less than 20 000 fans and not make so strong statement just in case. It is like they do not make the difference between their fans and the others.

Then you think, what in case they make a buzz? How will they manage it with this legal attitude on a social network? Will they handle it the same way? I already doubted of their moderation capacity. 

And it is pretty much what has happened and the reaction . 

After getting several negative comments from mainly marketers about their policy, they just took it off!
